Joe Gaiter: What does football mean to you?
Shaquille Powell: Football means everything to me. Football is what took me out of a small country town (Blakely, Ga) and turned me into the man I am today.
Joe Gaiter: Tell me about your season this year?
Shaquille Powell: This past season started off a little shaky but we shook back and finished the season strong. We tied for number one in the conference but since Alcorn had beaten us they went to the SWAC championship instead.
Joe Gaiter: How hungry are you to make the NFL?
Shaquille Powell: I’m extremely hungry to make it the NFL. Football is my passion. When I get there I’m going to remain hungry and continue to grind and work hard.

Shaquille Powell: If I could go back to my freshman year, I would tell myself to remain humble and make everyday count.
Joe Gaiter: Why should someone pick you over someone that plays your same position?
Shaquille Powell: They should pick me because I bring so much fire and passion to the game. I just have that effort and willingness to be great. I’m versatile and also very athletic. I will execute any play that is given, performing at my highest capability. No matter what the stats say I am the best offensive lineman in the 2018 class.
Joe Gaiter: Have you reached your athletic peak?
Shaquille Powell: No, I haven’t yet. In my opinion no matter how great of an athlete you become, there is always room for improvement and to better yourself.
Joe Gaiter: What is your motivation on the field?
Shaquille Powell: My motivation on the field is my family. I don’t want to see them struggle anymore so that keeps me fueled, not just on the field but off the field as well.
Do you have a backup if you don’t get drafted?
Shaquille Powell: If I don’t get drafted I will either go into coaching or real estate. I figured both are bright careers for me even after. I also have two degrees to fall back on so the sky is the limit.
Joe Gaiter: Who is your agent and why did you chose them?
Shaquille Powell: My agent is Deryk Gilmore and I chose my agent because he’s the best in the game. He works hard for his clients and puts you in the best position to be successful.
Joe Gaiter: Where and how often are you training?
Shaquille Powell: I’ve been training in Miami at Bommarito’s Training Facility. We train 6 days out of the week, including Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and we have Sundays off.
Joe Gaiter: Tell me about your proday?
Shaquille Powell: My proday went great. I ran a 4.98 40 with a 1.76 10 yard split. I repped out 225 for 22 times and had a 7.32 3 cone drill.
