Joe Gaiter: What does football mean to you?
Mike Crockett: Football means a way out to me. I always loved sports. I fell in love with football once I found out that I can actually compete and play with the best of them. Without football, I would’ve been exposed to things that could’ve changed my life for the worse. Football taught me how to work hard & how to compete & never give up. That transfers over to everyday life.
Joe Gaiter: Tell me about your season this year?
Mike Crockett: Last season went good. I would’ve liked to make more plays on the field. I made the plays I needed to make when I was counted on but not satisfied because I know I could’ve played to a higher level but I’m happy with how our team played and know what I have to get better at.
Joe Gaiter: How hungry are you to make the NFL?
Mike Crockett: I’ve never been more determine to accomplish this dream than anything in my life. I’ve put everything on the line & giving everything I got & is working harder than ever. I believe I can compete and makes plays at the next level. All I’ve ever wanted was to make it to NFL & take care of my family. In my eyes football is my only option until god takes me on another path.
Joe Gaiter: What will you miss most about playing college ball?
Mike Crockett: I’m going to miss being on the field with my teammates, practicing with those guys, hearing teachers & professors Tell you “you played a good game” in class was pretty cool. I enjoyed playing in big conference rival games.
Joe Gaiter: What would you tell yourself if you could go back to your freshman year?
Mike Crockett: I most definitely would tell myself to stay on top of my grades, but as an athlete I would say to myself every rep count, don’t take no play off because it might be your last. And never get out worked, compete and trust yourself.
Joe Gaiter: Why should someone pick you over someone that plays your same position?
Mike Crockett: Teams should pick me because I can play both safety & corner. Whether it’s nickel corner, outside, middle safety, in the box safety. I’m a versatile athlete and take pride in playing special teams. I work hard to get better each and every day and very coachable I would say. I take in all criticism, good or bad.
Joe Gaiter: Have you reached your athletic peak?
Mike Crockett: I don’t believe I’ve scratched the surface yet. I’m still learning new ways and techniques to become better, and with the right staff and God’s blessing, the sky’s the limit.
Joe Gaiter: What is your motivation on the field?
Mike Crockett: My family is my biggest motivation, to make sure they’re taking care of. And to show my mom that everything she’s done for me want for nothing.
Joe Gaiter: Do you have a backup if you don’t get drafted?
Mike Crockett: Coming from a small school I know being drafted has a slim chance behind it but I plan to keep grinding hard to get a chance. If I get a chance in the CFL that’ll be a blessing as well. I’m in school to be a high school teacher and coach so after football I’ll have that to lean towards.
Joe Gaiter: Who is your agent and why did you chose them?
Mike Crockett: I’m currently still looking for an agent to work with me.
Joe Gaiter: Where and how often are you training?
Mike Crockett: I train each and every day. I’m currently in Phoenix, Az training on my speed and explosion. As well perfecting my craft as a DB. I’ve been training at my school(Arizona Christian University) But just recently been at Rush Performance Facility with Trainer Alex Cogan It is located in North Phoenix, Owned by Edward Hisey & Todd Mcmillon.
Joe Gaiter: Tell me about your proday?
Mike Crockett: My program doesn’t hold pro days, so I’ll be performing and running my 40 at an upcoming CFL camp/tryout in May.
Joe Gaiter: What do you want your legacy to be?
Mike Crockett: I want to be known for providing and being there for my family & being the best athlete on the field at all times.
Joe Gaiter: As we get closer to the draft day, have you enjoyed this ride?
Mike Crockett: This ride has just begun for me. I’m ready for whatever comes my way.
Joe Gaiter: Final Words/Shoutouts?
Mike Crockett: I’m hoping to receive a chance whether it’s NFL or CFL, I’ll be blessed to get into a camp next month. I know if I get one chance they won’t be disappointment.
