Justin Wyatt: Football means everything to me. I play with emotion so it’s a way of expressing myself. I play defense so I really get to let my emotion spin. I feel like football and my God given talents will take me to new heights.
Joe Gaiter: Tell me about your season this year?
Justin Wyatt: I had a pretty good senior season, I got invited to 4 Senior All Star games, and had a invite to a small school combine. The only negative was my team didn’t win a game this season, coming from a winning program this was different, but you have to find a positive in every situation and that’s what I did.
Joe Gaiter: What are your strengths and weaknesses on the field?
Justin Wyatt: Strengths: my versatility, my IQ and my ability to diagnose plays faster than others and still play at a high level. I’m very physical and I’m a technician at what I do, especially tackling. Weakness: I could bend more at the hips and I could play with a lower pad level.
Joe Gaiter: What is your football IQ?
Justin Wyatt: My IQ is good enough to be a defensive coordinator. I’ve played 7 positions in college (WR,slot,RB,CB,Nickel,SS,FS) been in a different defense or offense each year so i know how to defeat each scheme. I watch hours of film. Before the play begins I look at the personnel, the down and distance and what has the ball is on. I know the top 2 run plays and the top 2 pass plays. Playing nickel I go to the passing strength majority of the game.
Joe Gaiter: What has been your biggest accomplishment?
Justin Wyatt: My biggest accomplishment was achieving about 80% of the goals I wrote down for the 2018 season. I looked at them every day and prayed over them and it’s a blessing to see that they all happened.
Joe Gaiter: Are you at your athletic peak?
Justin Wyatt: Yes I’m at my athletic peak and I’m only getting better.
Joe Gaiter: What will you miss most about playing football at Troy University?
Justin Wyatt: At Troy I’ll miss the Trojan Walk on game days.
Joe Gaiter: What are 3 things that set you apart from others playing your same position?
Justin Wyatt: Versatility, IQ, Athleticism.
Joe Gaiter: When is your proday/combine?
Justin Wyatt: Proday is March 11th.
Joe Gaiter: Who is your agent and why did your pick them?
Justin Wyatt: Tim Jackson T&J Management . Tim was a loyal guy. I had doubters saying I wasn’t good enough to get a agent cause I came from a small school and my success would come from Pro Day numbers. In reality Tim and his agency saw the potential and believed in me and had a plan to get me where I needed to be. All I needed was representation.
Joe Gaiter: Tell us about your different bowl experiences?
Justin Wyatt: I played in the National Bowl (D2 Senior Bowl) in Daytona Beach, Florida. It was a exciting experience and I felt like i prepared for It and the results showed. I started from Day 1 at Nickel, then some scouts wanted to see me at SS and when the game came around I started at Strong Safety. I lead both teams in tackles with 7. I dominated the whole week of practice. I knew this would be one of the biggest interviews of my life in front NFL scouts and also to go against the best of the best and I feel like I checked off a few boxes and caught some eyes.
Joe Gaiter: Why should any team give you a chance?
Justin Wyatt: Any team should give me a chance, because I’m versatile and I can play anywhere on the field and not miss a beat. I actually love playing special teams. I’m coachable and accountable and also I can pick up on new material pretty quickly. I’ll do anything for the benefit of the team’s success.
Joe Gaiter: What is your motivation?
Justin Wyatt: My motivation is to provide for my family and take care of them for generations. I just want it all for my family that’s why I go so hard.
Joe Gaiter: What has been the most surprising part about preparing for the NFL Draft?
Justin Wyatt: The most surprising part is how all your life you say you want to play in the NFL you watch guys every year go through the draft process year after year and you say “Man I want to be like that one day”, then boom it’s finally here. A few months away. To think that your dreams are literally in arms reach keeps me up at night and makes me want to go even harder each day.
Joe Gaiter: What is your Plan B?
Justin Wyatt: My plan B is to become a Sports Agent, I’m already sitting on two degrees so the school part is taken care of. I’m locked in on football and it’s time for me to get that bag.
Joe Gaiter: Do you have any regrets?
Justin Wyatt: I don’t have any regrets all lessons that turned into blessings and I’m thankful for it.
Joe Gaiter: Final Words/Shoutouts?
Justin Wyatt: ANY NFL TEAM TAKE A CHANCE ON ME, THE FILM DONT LIE AND IM GOING TO TEST WELL ON PRODAY. To my mama and my sister, “ I wanna change y’all life one day”.
