Joe Gaiter: What does football mean to you?
Warren Newman:Football means everything to me, I have been playing since I was 5 years old. Growing up I used to watch football with my father all the time, I used to be in front of the TV saying that’s going to be me. I knew I would always have a bright future on playing ball.
Joe Gaiter: What is your untold story?
Warren Newman: My untold story is I was talking to the coaches at Jackson so my freshman year I had a choice to make, either stay home or go there without a scholarship, so I went there and out worked everyone everyday. I pushed myself to the max. I end up starting freshman year my second game of season. I had a great spring ball. In the upcoming summer, I received a phone call saying I was on scholarship. Ever since I just been going hard and keeping that chip on my shoulder. I know to never take anything for granted.
Joe Gaiter: What are some of your fondest memories about playing at Edna Karr High School?
Warren Newman: Winning a state champion 4 years straight.
Joe Gaiter: What made you choose JSU?
Warren Newman: It was the only school that really had interest in me. My family had told me to go there and give it a shot, I was saying no at first but than I prayed and gave it a couple of days and came up with my decision to go there.
Joe Gaiter: What are some of your stats this year?
Warren Newman:6 Td, 43 Reception, 500 yards.
Joe Gaiter: What makes you so good in playing wide receiver?
Warren Newman:I’m fast, have great routes, good hands and good
Joe Gaiter: Do you feel like you have reached your athletic peak?
Warren Newman:No, I still have more growth. I can get better in more aspects. There is always room for more improvement.
Joe Gaiter: JSU was 4-8, What went wrong and what can we expect from you next season?
Warren Newman:We need to work on finishing, having less turn overs, and learn how to fight through adversity during those turnovers. We need to be more mentally tough throughout the whole game because we tend to get down when something goes left.
Joe Gaiter: How have you been staying active during the offseason?
Warren Newman:Yes. I work out everyday. I run and lift to make sure I am in top shape.
Joe Gaiter: What is your focus been on lately?
Warren Newman:My focus has been on grinding to make sure I have a great upcoming season to make sure I give myself opportunity. I also want to move my family out of New Orleans and graduate to get my degree.
Joe Gaiter: What is your motivation?
Warren Newman:My motivation is my daughter, family, and my brothers. They push me everyday to make sure I am focus and on the right track.
Joe Gaiter: How hungry are you to make it?
Warren Newman: I’m very hungry because not only do I have to feed myself, I have a daughter to feed. I can’t rely on anyone else but myself.
Joe Gaiter: Who are some athletes we should keep on our radar?
Warren Newman: D Hamp, CJ Holmes, they both are hardworkers. CJ and I make sure we push each other to the max everyday.
Joe Gaiter: Have you seen your growth as an athlete?
Warren Newman: My growth as an athlete has been awesome. I watch myself get better from putting in work everyday. I went from the bottom to the top in route running. I gained tremendous confidence on catching the ball.
Joe Gaiter: What do you want your legacy to be?
Warren Newman: I want to win a SWAC championship and be known as the best receiver to come from Jackson State.
Joe Gaiter: What encouragement do you have for up coming athletes coming in from high school?
Warren Newman: Never give up on your dream on playing college ball. Work hard no matter what, you have ups and downs in everything but keep fighting. Never let anyone tell you what you can not do. Make the best of every situation you encounter. Facts!
Joe Gaiter: Shout outs?
Warren Newman: First I would like to shout out God, if it wasn’t for him I would not have the ability to be as talented as I am. I also want to thank my parents who have been through a lot but some how everything has begun to work itself out. Shout out to my grandma, she never missed a game. I go hard for her because she go hard for me.
