Joe Gaiter: What does football mean to you?
Emmett Keyes: When I grab a football I think of everything that it took for me to get to this point. Many people overlooked me, so it made me even more determine to be great. It shaped my life, it made me grind in a way that I never thought I could. It taught me things that I can take anywhere in my life.
Joe Gaiter: Tell me about your season this year?
Emmett Keyes: 11 Games 75 Solo Tackles 37 Assist Tackles 1 Sack for 7 yds. 3.5 Tfl for 8.0 10 PBUS 4Ints1 FR 2 FF 1 Block FG.
Joe Gaiter: How hungry are you to make the NFL?
Emmett Keyes: I’ve never been satisfied. I’ve been overlooked since HS, but they never measured me by my heart. They never looked at my stats compared to others. So I’m use to sitting back and taking the stairs. I’m use to having to do other things to have to stick out. All of that stuff is fine. Because at the end of the day, it’s about who wants it more. Me or you.
Joe Gaiter: What will you miss most about playing college ball?
Emmett Keyes: I’m going to miss all my brothers I ever stepped on the field with. I’m going to miss the feeling of a Saturday morning. All of that is irreplaceable.
Joe Gaiter: What would you tell yourself if you could go back to your freshman year?
Emmett Keyes: I would tell myself “your play on the field is going to dictate how you train all spring and summer.” Do not let off the gas, because you were never the favor to win the race.
Joe Gaiter: What is your motivation on the field?
Emmett Keyes: I lost two grandmothers and my great aunt in three months all back to back to back. They were all role models to me in a different way. I would give it all up, and try everything over again just for them to see me play. My parents are a huge motivation in my life. They believed in every dream I had, and still today they do. They worked their tale off, just for me and my younger brother to be happy. They always make sure I’m good, before they are.
Joe Gaiter: Have you reached your athletic peak?
Emmett Keyes: I do not believe I have reached my peak yet. I learn a lot of different things about myself daily, and what I can do to make myself better. You can’t never be satisfied with your game.
Joe Gaiter: Do you have a backup if you don’t get drafted?
Emmett Keyes: I want to be apart of a recruiting agency that help kids get to a higher level of sport. I want to continually be around sports. I want to see kids see their dream come true.
Joe Gaiter: When is your proday?
Emmett Keyes: My pro day is Friday, March 23rd at Western Kentucky University.
Joe Gaiter: Where and how often are you training?
Emmett Keyes: I train 5 to 6 days out the week. My uncle trains me at a gym called The Warehouse.
Joe Gaiter: What do you want your legacy to be?
Emmett Keyes: I want people to remember me as a guy that was never satisfied. I want people to know me as a humble football player. I also want them to know that I always shined bright when a QB throws a football my way.
Joe Gaiter: Final Words/Shoutouts?
Emmett Keyes: I just want to Thank God for allowing me to be in this position. I wouldn’t be here without Him. I want to thank my family who has stayed on me continuously. I want to thank all my brothers for pushing me through my journey, and never giving up on me. I want to thank my uncles for being there for me at all cost, even when nobody else was. You all have truly brought out the best in me.
