Ronnie Scott: Next to God and my family, football means everything to me. Football gave me a chance to get out of a city that doesn’t see many people get out. Most of the jobs I’ve gotten and connections I’ve made throughout life both business and personal have been through football.
Joe Gaiter: Tell me about your season this year?
Ronnie Scott: This year was one of my best statistical years. I was voted all team 1st conference and finished with 3 interceptions for over 160 return yards and 2 touchdowns. With all these accomplishments, I still felt like this season was very difficult mentally. As a team we finished 4-6 and injury kept me out 2 games.
Joe Gaiter: How hungry are you to make the NFL?
Ronnie Scott: As hungry as I’ve ever been to do anything. Playing in the NFL has been my dream since I can remember dreaming. Besides the fact that this is my lifelong dream, playing in the NFL can help my family and that has always been my ultimate goal.
Joe Gaiter: What will you miss the most about playing at Alabama State University?
Ronnie Scott: I will miss the family environment. On and of the field the culture of Alabama State felt like family. Being far away from my family was always hard but being at Alabama State made me feel like I had entered into another family that I will always be apart of.
Joe Gaiter: What would you tell yourself if you could go back to freshman year?
Ronnie Scott: I would tell myself to talk better care of my body. College football is very physical and demanding, I didn’t realize the importance of diet and recovery early in my collegiate career. Since leaving I’ve gained about 10-15 pounds and my body feels better because I’m taking better care of it.
Joe Gaiter: What’s your motivation on the field?
Ronnie Scott: My family and friends. I play for the people who believe in me, anybody who’s ever donated any of their time or money to my dream. I feel like I owe it to everybody who believed in me especially my mom. Shes dedicated alot of her time into my athletics since I was a child, that’s why I got her name tattooed on my chest. I always kiss my hand and put it to that tattoo before I hit the field.
Joe Gaiter: Have you reached your athletic peak?
Ronnie Scott: No. When I was 18 I was doing things I couldn’t when I was 16. I can say the same about now versus when I was 20. Looking at athletes like Lebron and Tom Brady I’ve realized that I may not actually reach my athletic prime until im well into my 20’s.
Joe Gaiter: Do you have a backup if you don’t get drafted?
Ronnie Scott: Yes. I plan on pursuing free agency and CFL opportunities. If football doesn’t work out as a whole I plan on going back to graduate school as a graduate assistant and pursue a collegiate coaching career.
Joe Gaiter: Who is your agent and how’d you chose them?
Ronnie Scott: My agent is Khary Wright. He represents Beverly Hills Sports and Entertainment out of Atlanta, GA. After our first conversation I knew he was the guy I wanted to represent me. While signing and getting me onto a team was priority, family and loyalty were close seconds and those things are fundamental to me in an agent/player relationship.
Joe Gaiter: Where and how often are you training?
Ronnie Scott: I am back in Tampa training 5 days a week. I currently get my strength and speed training from Sherman Armstrong and the Vast Sports Performance staff.
Joe Gaiter: Tell me about your proday.
Ronnie Scott: Proday went as well as i could have wished it to go in 50 degree temperature. The highlight of my day was a 41” vertical jump. It was the best I’ve ever jumped and I was told later that it actually would have been the highest mark of any cornerback in the combine. I ran 4.38 40yd dash which was also a personal best. My day rounded out with a 10’3” broad jump, 4.4 short shuttle, and 11.3 60yd shuttle.
Joe Gaiter:What do you want your legacy to be?
Ronnie Scott: When people remember Ronnie i want them to remember somebody who was athletically gifted but did depend solely on that. I want people to remember a hard worker but most importantly i want to be remembered as a great teammate. Someone who loved his teammates and earned their respect.
