Diquan Richardson: My Football Story is very long. I had no offers coming out of high school so I went to a program called EPSA to that being shut down and me dropping out after my first fall semester. Then I went to Paine College a D2 school to that being shut down after 1 NCAA year. I ended up at Bethune Cookman where I flourished and started 3 games my first season. I was 3rd on the team in tackles. Every season after I lead the team in interceptions and tackles and I didn’t get into the situations I faced at Paine and EPSA. I really have a story and I just want to ball!!
Joe Gaiter: Remind us of your college career stats? Proday Stats?
Diquan Richardson: My career stats are 202 total tackles 9 interceptions and 26 PBUs I ran a 4.50 had a 35 inch vertical and a 10.2 broad jump.
Joe Gaiter: Do you think HBCU students get a fair chance in the draft?
Diquan Richardson: Coming from an HBCU I think we are over looked. We have to put up monster stats just to get a chance. I played very well against the 4 FBS opponents in my career. I had 36 tackles 2 interceptions 1 pick 6 1 FF and 3 PBU so I thought I proved I could play at the next level.
Joe Gaiter: What is your game plan to get on a team next season?
Diquan Richardson: I’m just going to keep praying and working as hard as I can and reaching out to as many teams as I can I know what I can do on a football field and all I need is a chance.
Joe Gaiter: What is your motivation at this point to keep trying to showcase your talent?
Diquan Richardson: I have really high motivation. I love the game and I’m not going to give up on it.
Joe Gaiter: What lessons are you learning throughout this NFL Draft/NFL Free Agent journey?
Diquan Richardson: I am learning a lot coming from Bethune Cookman or any HBCU or smaller school. Like I said before you have to put up Monster stats just to get a chance. Knowing that I’m telling every small school player who comes out after me to ball every game. Every time you step out on the field and don’t take it for granted.
Joe Gaiter: How has your agent helped you in your journey?
Diquan Richardson: My agent had tried his best and he is at least giving me hope.
Joe Gaiter: How do you work through depression and frustration during this time?
Diquan Richardson: I pray every chance I get I know God has a plan and I’m not giving up on the game and I just enjoy life and Thankful for waking up every day.
Joe Gaiter: Where are you training to stay ready?
Diquan Richardson: I am currently training at DME sports in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Joe Gaiter: Why should any team give you a chance?
Diquan Richardson: A team should bring me in because I’m a competitor. I’m going to give it my all every play every time I step on the field and I’m a balled and a straight dawg. I play special teams and I would be a great addition to anybody’s secondary.
Joe Gaiter: Looking back do you have any regrets?
Diquan Richardson: Looking back I have no regrets, none at all. I’m going to keep pushing and I know one day I will live out my dream and continue play this game I love again.
