Jalen Griffin: Football is my life. Ever since I touched a football it’s been my passion. The game has molded me not only into an athlete but a man with great character.
Joe Gaiter: What or who inspired you to play sports?
Jalen Griffin: Nothing inspired me to play football. The game just gave me joy even when I was just playing it recreational.
Joe Gaiter: Tell us about playing under Coach Dante Culbreath?
Jalen Griffin: I started playing under Coach Dante my junior year in high school and it was never easy. If you played for him its two things for certain you were going to be tough and play hard.
Joe Gaiter: How was your recruitment experience?
Jalen Griffin: Losing my sophomore year to injury my recruiting process was tough. Despite my challenges I had a couple D1 walk on offers and 7 D2 offers
Joe Gaiter: Why did you choose The University of Mount Union?
Jalen Griffin: The winning tradition of Mount Union got my attention. Its something that can’t be easily duplicated. When a school like Mount shows interest you have to take advantage.
Joe Gaiter: Tell us about the football culture at your school?
Jalen Griffin: The football culture is solely based on tradition. Things are ran the same way as they were 20 years ago.
Joe Gaiter: How was your junior year on the field?
Jalen Griffin: First year being a full time starter was interesting. I had to become more of a leader and make more plays than I did the previous year.
Joe Gaiter: What was some of your stats this year?
Joe Gaiter: What is your motivation when you are on the field?
Jalen Griffin: Just knowing I love the game and each game could be my last pushes me to play my heart out.
Joe Gaiter: How do you feel you can improve your skills for next season?
Jalen Griffin: I can improve on the little things and improve my technique
Joe Gaiter: What makes you a great defensive back?
Jalen Griffin: Great eyes, smooth feet, patience and a high IQ.
Joe Gaiter: What are your strengths and weaknesses on the field?
Jalen Griffin: I’ll let film tell those for me.
Joe Gaiter: What is your off-season workout routine?
Jalen Griffin: I have two trainers one for strength and conditioning the other for DB drills. I do strength and conditioning 5-6 days a week at 6am or 3pm and do DB drills 3-4 days a week at 5pm or 6pm.
Joe Gaiter: Do you have any regrets?
Jalen Griffin: No everything has been a lesson. Sometimes you have to make mistakes to gain experience
Joe Gaiter: What is your major and how do you plan on using it?
Jalen Griffin: I major in Sports Business and I plan on being a trainer or football coach for a career.
Joe Gaiter: What is your untold story.
Jalen Griffin: Most people don’t know I decommitted D1 to go to Mount Union.
Joe Gaiter: Who are some athletes we should look out for?
Jalen Griffin: S Malik Britt, CB Derrick Bradley,Wr Jordan Lee, LB Mitch O’Hara, QB Braxton Plunk and Wr Wanye Ruby all from Mount Union.
Joe Gaiter: What do you want your legacy to be?
Jalen Griffin: I want to be remembered as one of the best all-around DB. That gives sparks to the defense.
