Tyson Alexander: Football means everything to me. I have been playing football my whole life. Watching my brother and cousin play football just inspired me. They were just so amazing on the field. They made me want to be better than them and to be the one of the greatest football player of all time.
Joe Gaiter: Who inspired you to play sports?
Tyson Alexander: My brother Justin Alexander and my cousin Justin Blackmon. Seeing my brother and his abilities to play both sides of the ball. Seeing my cousin play in college and getting picked first round to the Jacksonville Jaguars just showed me that with hard work and dedication pays off.
Joe Gaiter: What are your fondest memories of DeSoto High School?
Tyson Alexander: My senior season because this was my opportunity to start as a Running Back to show my talent an abilities.
Joe Gaiter: Tell us about your recruitment process?
Tyson Alexander: My recruiting process was simple, Jackson State was really the only team that believed in me an gave me an opportunity.
Joe Gaiter: Why did you choose Jackson State?
Tyson Alexander: Jackson State just felt like a family. When I went on my visit and seeing the history of JSU just made me want to become a part of its legacy.
Joe Gaiter: JSU was 4-8 last year, what went wrong?
Tyson Alexander: As a team we tend start off strong but we need to learn how to finish strong. We have the talent and capabilities to be championship team.
Joe Gaiter: How are you preparing your mind and body during the off-season?
Tyson Alexander: I’m still working out everyday. Studying film and the playbook to just make me a better player for the team.
Joe Gaiter: What is your relationship like with Head Coach John Hendrick and the coaching staff?
Tyson Alexander: My relationship is good with the Head Coach and the coaching staff.
Joe Gaiter: What are the keys in playing RB?
Tyson Alexander: The keys to playing RB to me are being mentally strong, determination, to be able to think fast on your feet and PROTECT THE BALL.
Joe Gaiter: How have you faced adversity this year?
Tyson Alexander: Yes , the coronavirus is my biggest adversity this year.
Joe Gaiter: What lessons have you learned from the graduating seniors this year?
Tyson Alexander: Being grateful for every snap you get because you will never know when it’s your last.
Joe Gaiter: Which game are your most looking forward in playing next season?
Tyson Alexander: Prairie View because I will be playing against my old teammates from Desoto High School.
Joe Gaiter: Do you feel like you have something to prove on the field?
Tyson Alexander: Yes , I want to show everyone that I can play on this level and exceed expectations an play on the next level as well.
Joe Gaiter: Who are some athletes we need to look out for next season?
Tyson Alexander: The whole team! 2020 is going to be a year that Jackson State shows everyone what we are capable of.
Joe Gaiter: What are your thoughts about the 2020 NFL Draft so far?
Tyson Alexander: Seeing some of Desoto’s Alumni getting drafted and that the Jacksonville Jaguars picked the best player in the draft Laviska Shenault Jr.
Joe Gaiter: What do you want your legacy to be?
Tyson Alexander: I want to be remembered as one of the greatest to ever play at Jackson State.
Joe Gaiter: How important is family to you?
Tyson Alexander: My family is my motivation, my backbone, my everything they help me become the person I am today.
Joe Gaiter: What is your untold story?
Tyson Alexander: My untold story is that I never been “ The Guy”. I have always had to work an prove myself to everybody that I can play at this level and will make it to the league.
Joe Gaiter: What is your motivation?
Tyson Alexander: My motivation is my family myself, and Leroy Hawkins. I’m proving to my family and to myself that I will make it to the NFL and achieve my goal of being in the Hall Of Fame.
