Joe Gaiter: What are your thoughts about the Claflin vs. Morehouse game?
Tyrius Walker: It was just another game, yeah they are playing good basketball too but I always go into every game liking my guys over anybody. I knew my guys were ready because the whole week , everybody mindset was focus.
Joe Gaiter:What was your mind frame going into this game against Chaflin University?
Tyrius Walker:Just start off with high energy and finish with a chip on our shoulder. I always go into every game with the mindset if I start off with great energy then I know my teammates will match my intensity.
Joe Gaiter:You scored 29 points points tonight. How would you grade your own performance?
Tyrius Walker:I didn’t play as well as I should have. My teammates just got me going and I fed off of them. I also have to cut down on my turnovers but I played ok but my teammates played outstanding.
Joe Gaiter: Claflin only lead the game in points for the first 35 seconds of the game. Talk about the contribution from your team to collectively our play them.
Tyrius Walker:Like I said , those guys stepped up to the challenge and was ready to prove to everybody that we are undefeated because of a team effort, I’m proud of them boys and I wouldn’t trade them for anybody. They took the game personal like I tell them before every game because we are on a mission to win the conference championship and the National championship.
Joe Gaiter:What have you learned from today’s game that will help you when you play this team again?
Tyrius Walker:I’ve learned that getting my guys going early will free up my shots in the long way because I know that teams will try to double me or take me out the game so I just figure out other ways to help my team win even if it’s the little things so now I’m just going to look at film and get better from yesterday’s game.
Joe Gaiter:This game brought a rather large crowd, do you think that also played apart in your win?
Tyrius Walker:It definitely played a major part of the victory because we fed off the crowd especially when you not used to having large crowds like this other than the Clark game. So now we know people started to support us because of this history run we on , we just use them to hype us up even more and they did their thing tonight , loved the atmosphere.
Joe Gaiter:What are your game day rituals?
Tyrius Walker:I like to meditate before games and listen to soft music to ease my mind so I can be calm instead of being to hype up for the game.
Joe Gaiter:Monday, your team will face Benedict College. They lost to Clark Atlanta on Saturday. What is your game plan against this fast pace team?
Tyrius Walker:Just come out aggressive like we did against claflin and don’t let up , and just make sure we play solid defense and not help them out by putting points on the board with free throws, play our game and make sure we execute down the stretch.
Joe Gaiter:How do you deal with the pressure to remain undefeated?
Tyrius Walker:Honestly, it’s no pressure when you have everybody believing in Each other and knowing that for us to lose will be because we beat ourselves so we make sure we stay within the game plan which our coaches come up with and execute them at a high level.
Joe Gaiter:What is your motivation while you’re on the court?
Tyrius Walker: My family, knowing that one day this game will help me take care of them and the kids who look up to me , seeing that I can be a role model doing what I love to do and it just make me go even harder and that’s all the motivation I need.
Joe Gaiter: Final Words?
Tyrius Walker: I just wanna give all thanks to the man upstairs, my savior, for allowing me to experience this historic journey with my teammates, coaches and fans and I’m looking forward to ending this journey with 2 Championships.
