Joe Gaiter: What does basketball mean to you?
AJ Williams: Basketball is everything to me. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without basketball. Basketball has been there through my good & bad times of my life. It’s a blessing to be able to play this sport. I thank God every day for given me the opportunity to continue to get better at it.
Joe Gaiter: What is your untold story?
AJ Williams: Nobody knows the real reason I work hard & never give up on anything I do such as school & basketball. My work ethic came from my mom. I’ve seen her single handedly provide for me my older brother & sister with no help. So, I take that as I better never give up on anything I do because she never gave up on us.
Joe Gaiter: What is the best advice a coach or teammate has given to you?
AJ Williams: The best advice a coach gave me was, “don’t let basketball use you, use the basketball to get where ever you want to go”.
Joe Gaiter: How was the feeling winning the SIAC Championship?
AJ Williams: The feeling of winning the SIAC Championship was the highlight of my college career especially with those group of guys & coaches I won it with. It definitely felt great to win that because that year we were the underdogs coming into a season after the team before won only 9 games. I think that championship definitely woke everyone up!
Joe Gaiter: What makes a good guard on the court?
AJ Williams: Me personally I think being a great leader & making the right plays & sacrifices for the team makes a good guard on the court.
Joe Gaiter: Besides dominating basketball, what other hobbies do you have?
AJ Williams: Other hobbies I have are I love to dance & play video games with friends, more specifically NBA 2k19. My friends always call me a cheat code in that game.
Joe Gaiter: What team will you be playing for next season?
AJ Williams: I will be playing for The Geelong Supercats in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
Joe Gaiter: What position will you play and what do you feel your role will be on your team?
AJ Williams: I will be playing Point guard & Shooting guard on that team. My role will be to be a leader & make the right plays for our team to be successful. I will be one of the key players on the team so I’ll mainly have to do a little bit everything for us to be successful.
Joe Gaiter: Do you feel like your talents have been overlooked at times?
AJ Williams: I’ve been overlooked my entire life but I never let that stop my plan to become great. As long as I continue to work hard & be a good person good things will happen.
Joe Gaiter: Who would you say has been your inspiration?
AJ Williams: My biggest inspiration is my mom, I’m glad I’m able to show the world how hard of a worker she was through all my abilities.
Joe Gaiter: What advice do you have for basketball players wanting to play overseas?
AJ Williams: My advice to guys that want to play overseas is to continue grinding wherever you playing at. The agents & scouts will find you long as you handling your business on & off the court. Also, connect with people outside of your coaching staff because your coaches may only give you much to their knowledge.
Joe Gaiter: Do you feel like your hard work is paying off?
AJ Williams: Definitely my hard work is paying off. I just thank God, pray & grind every single day.
Joe Gaiter: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
AJ Williams: I see myself getting an opportunity to play in the NBA in 5 years. I just have to continue to handle my business I’m on the right track.
Joe Gaiter: Final Words/Shoutouts?
AJ Williams: I just want to shoutout Clark Atlanta University staff, professors, students, teammates & my coaches for making a kid from Brooklyn, New York feel like home. I will always head back when I can.
